Hollow Earth Radio

Hollow Earth Radio is a community-run online radio station that presents a forum for music, sounds and perspectives commonly under-represented by the media. We support the local music community in the Pacific Northwest by exposing works that have yet to be unearthed or have long been dormant.

Novian guest reviews of new music

    Nova Project guest reviews here!

    Donna reviewed:

“Blank Pages” by the Album Leaf

It was really rad! It reminded me of mountain scapes.

    “Thunderbolt” by Death by Steamship

This is loud and confusing but it was all-around good.

    Stefan reviewed:

    “It Hertz !” by Katzen

I was 1st drawn to the collaged album art. Then the beats and synth part came in strong on track 1, ‘Lets Build a City’. The album name track ‘It Hertz !’ is fun. I’m reminded of Octant, and Kraftwerk. It would make a great animation soundtrack. If the film has lots of pans of the countryside, wildflowers, and blinking neon signs. I’m also seeing melting igloos, mile-long counches filled with people with cat faces. Someone should make that film if they haven’t already.

“Live from Soundoff’ Vol 2” by various youth NW bands

Now I’m listening to this compilation CD, which is underage music, battle style. DYNO JAMZ has a smooth background sound, nice Jazzy chords & the rapping styles feel pretty fluid. So I’m going to give each track a qwik listen to here, with 2-8 words per track:

    SOL: fast & gristly

DEARBOY: singin’ in the shower music

    MAKEUP MONSTERS: reggae church jams

THE MISSION ORANGE: sweet guitar & bass interaction

CYRUS FELL DOWN: carnivalesque without being cliche

    LOVE TRUCKER: flying carpet ride

    BRIER ROSE: eerie harmony

FREE CITY COLLECTIVE: rockin in the city

RAZPY & THE VIGILANTES: Pixies meets the Smiths meets Busta Rhymes

KIDS GET HIT BY BUSSES: Men Without Hats the videogame

SCHOOLBOY GUTBUSTER: as seen on TV

MAKEUP MONSTERS: music to play Jenga by

DEARBOY: Skipping down the street and you find a 5 dollar bill

SOL: if sun worshippers and music worshippers united, this would happen

DYNO JAMS: Hey heyyyyy DYNO JAMS you guys already had a track on here, how’d you get a 2nd one!?

In closing, I wonder who won this competition? BRIER ROSE, or DEARBOY? Maybe. Maybe everyone won.  Here was a great opportunity to hear the local Seattle music youth scene.
