Hollow Earth Radio

Hollow Earth Radio is a community-run online radio station that presents a forum for music, sounds and perspectives commonly under-represented by the media. We support the local music community in the Pacific Northwest by exposing works that have yet to be unearthed or have long been dormant.

David Newman’s Under the Influence of 2010!

Hi, Everyone In The Vast Hollow Earth Radio Listening Audience!

Here are the tracks/artists I’ve been influenced by in the last year. These are not
presented in any order because I’m not feeling very ordery today.

    Jim Sullivan “UFO”

Fantastic reissue of otherwordly psych folk by a dude who disappeared in the desert.
    Nuff said.

TL Barrett and the Youth For Christ Band “Like A Ship”

This huge gospel band was the inspiration for Maurice White to create Earth, Wind, and
Fire. Angelic voices, multiple funky drums, guitars wailing – simply amazing.

Uni and her ukulele, “U Comp”

Still the most fantastic all around singer/songwriting talent in the US. Cheeky, sassy,
touching – at a price you can afford. Uni’s been DIY since before the movement started.
Uni (AKA Heather Ellison) paid her dues working for Johnny Otis, the dean of American
    R&B bandleaders.

Master Musicians Of Bukake, “Totem 2”

To listen to MMOB I need you to do something for me. Darken your room, burn a
boatload of incense, wear a shroud, and turn this sucker up. Be transported to a place
where as Lovecraft would put it you’ll glimpse terrifying vistas of reality.

    Sabbath Assembly Band

In measures demonic and beautific, SAB is a recreation of Process Church cult music.
Last year I ranked the demo’s for this album as some of the best music of the year. Now
I must do the same again for the cd version. Because Satan told me.

Lil Loca “Scandalous Little Hood Rat”

Stevie Ryan (actress, vlogger, singer) has gone beyond creating a gang girl persona.
With Lil Loca Stevie has crafted her own world with passions, in-fighting, and fantastic
    humor.

You must download this video from iTunes. Why? Because you secretly love novellas.
Because you crave Latino hip hop. And because Lil Loca is the jefe, the big boss!

    Butts “2”

Everybody loves the raucous music of this sassy duo because … well they crank out jams
about drugs and stupid stuff. OK but as regular listeners of “under the influence” know
I’m not into that. All the geeky goofball clowning around is a façade for some of the best
gut churning rawk you’ve ever heard.

Guitar and drum nerds, you will love this!

    Dermot Whelan “Touch Me Here”

From humble beginnings at Dublin’s 98FM to working comedy clubs to his current lofty
heights as an upcoming tv star on Ireland’s “Republic of Telly”, Dermot is the world’s
    most authentically funny human.

By the way, by the wayers Dermot was a donor to our most excellent Kickstarter grant.
Please pay homage to Dermot by ogling the gold cassette with his name on it smack dab
in the middle of the palatial Hollow Earth Radio studio.

Here is Dermot Whelan’s anti-Eurovision Song Contest 2010 screed – in the form of a
    song. Of course.

Whiskey Bliss “Take Me To The River”

Humble, brilliant talent I discovered at the Fremont Market. From 2010 here is
    Whiskey’s signature tune.

    The Posies “Blood/Candy”

Arch, witty Bellingham survivors, the Posies have been crafting pop deliciousness for
almost 30 years babies. For your listening enjoyment in 2010, the Posies present us with
more songs about love, loss, and so much more babies.
